A million phones light up NYE

More than one million people gather around the harbour for Sydney New Year's Eve and this year they are being given the opportunity to take part in a world-first NYE interactive colour light show.

We've developed a free smartphone app with Telstra that will simultaneously light up phone screens as coloured lights splash the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The app will let you take part in the biggest interactive light show on Sydney Harbour - we hope it might even set a new Australian record for audience participation.

The app will have useful information, including vantage point maps and updates about when different locations have reached capacity, as well as news feeds to keep up-to-date on the latest developments.

The app will allow people to 'Message the Bridge' by submitting words, which may be projected onto one of the Sydney Harbour Bridge pylons.

Sydney's New Year's Eve celebrations are organised and funded by the City of Sydney each year. It is the largest free event in Australia and the $6.6 million we're investing will boost the NSW economy by more than $150 million.

If you are going to watch the fireworks from one of the many vantage points around Sydney Harbour, plan ahead and download the free phone app.
