This week the fantastic program for Art & About Sydney 2014 was unveiled . With a focus on the theme 'endangered', Art & About Sydney will bring together an extraordinary line-up of international and Australian artists
Artists will transform Sydney's streets, squares, parks and unusual spaces with installations and performances.
Art & About is Sydney's best-loved public art festival and from 19 September to 12 October, the event will feature favourites like the Little Sydney Lives competition, the Banner Gallery and the former Sydney Life photography competition and exhibition which has, for the first time, gone national and become Australian Life.
New attractions this year will include:
• Ten illuminated tepees set up in Hyde Park showcasing works of some of Australia's and the world's most respected graphic artists;
• An outdoor photographic studio set up outside the Queen Victoria Building to capture school-style group photos of strangers;
• Curated tours of Kings Cross and Redfern by local children;
• Choreographed street dance performances with shopping trolleys in the centre of the city;
• Colourfully performers cramming themselves into doorways, alcoves and tiny spaces in the CBD to surprise passers-by;
• And an opportunity for Sydneysiders to organise an intimate theatre show to be performed in their very own lounge room.
The festival kicks-off with a Quarter Acre Block Party on Friday 19 September. Martin Place will be transformed into a giant backyard with music, food, entertainment, BBQs, lawn cricket, garden furniture, vinyl records and more.
The 2014 program provides great insights and reflections on our rapidly changing society and I invite everyone to come and enjoy the wonderful things that will be on offer.
