Christmas is a special time in Sydney.
This year, our new Christmas design - a sparkling star - appears on more than 1200 street banners and 28 Christmas trees and thousands of sparkling lights will decorate the city centre and our villages.
The celebrations officially kick off on Thursday (24 November) with the City's Christmas concert in Martin Place. Hosted by Rhys Muldoon with special celebrity guest Guy Sebastian, it features the lighting of Sydney's iconic Christmas tree, fireworks and of course a visit from Santa.
Our 21-metre Christmas tree in Martin Place will be lit with 58,000 energy efficient LED lights and new images will be projected onto the Town Hall every night from November 24 until 25 December, seven days a week from 8.30pm to 1am.
There's also another Christmas concert on Thursday night in Hyde Park - Christmas on the Green - hosted Justine Clarke with carols by the VOX Sydney Philharmonia Choir and another visit from Santa.
Both concerts begin at 6pm and conclude at 8.30pm.
The City is also presenting four Village Christmas concerts over the coming weekends:
- Rushcutters Bay Village Concert on Saturday 26 November at Rushcutters Bay Park;
- Rosebery Village Concert on Sunday 27 November at Turruwul Park;
- Alexandria Village Concert on Saturday 3 December at Alexandria Park; and
- The Surry Hills Village Concert on Sunday 4 December at Ward Park.
This year our Christmas charity partner is the Australian Children's Music Foundation. ACMF brings hope and joy to disadvantaged children through music.
I hope you can support this wonderful initiative by donating to Foundation volunteers at the City's concerts or online.
