Two leading design professionals have received the unanimous endorsement of Council to represent the City on the Barangaroo Delivery Authority (BDA) Board. Kerry Clare, Principal Clare Architects, will be the City's representative with Michael Harrison, a Director at leading architecture and planning firm Architectus, as her alternate.
Kerry's contribution to Australian and International architecture, sustainable design and her work on the City's Design Advisory Panel make her a valuable contribution to the Board.
Similarly, Michael worked as Director City Strategy and Design at the City from 2007 to 2011 and is experienced in strategic planning, urban design and place making.
The nominations follow a request from the Premier and the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure for the City of Sydney to nominate a representative to fill its vacant position on the BDA Board.
As the City's nominees, Kerry and Michael will work with City staff to ensure the City's expertise is available for the best redevelopment of the site and that Council's policies are clearly articulated to the BDA Board.
Barangaroo is a unique harbour site adjacent to the city. This redevelopment provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create new foreshore, parks and walkways that integrate with the Central Business District and provide much needed office accommodation, housing, shops and cultural venues. It is Sydney's opportunity to lead the world in design excellence and in creating a sustainable, low carbon community.
I am committed to working effectively with the community, Government, the BDA and developer Lend Lease to achieve an iconic and internationally significant precinct at Barangaroo.
