Sydney needs bold vision.
Our city faces big challenges - reducing our impact on the environment, creating happy and successful communities and making sure people can get around quickly and easily.
Unfortunately Infrastructure NSW's plan released this week focuses on building more roads, more port expansions to boost the mining industry and ignores serious investment in public transport.
NSW needs a vision that promotes transport options, supports new industries and makes life easier for people living and working in Sydney.
The Premier said the Government will respond in full to this plan by the end of the year. Please lobby the Government to ensure public transport, particularly light and heavy rail, are included in their plan.
Light rail on George Street will bring thousands of people every hour to their work, to shops, hotels and the restaurants.
The Greiner Infrastructure plan recommends against light rail down George Street but light rail is supported by businesses, stakeholders, transport experts in the City and Transport NSW and the community.
George Street was the scene for a remarkable celebration this afternoon in honour of Sydney Swans - AFL Premiers for 2012. The team was presented with a Key to the City in recognition of the hard work and dedication they've shown throughout the year.
The team has developed a culture of respect and determination, and I'd like to congratulate all the players and staff from the Swans.
