(11.30am 12 February 2012, Doggywood Stage Victoria Park Camperdown)
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Doggywood!
I would like firstly to acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the traditional custodians of our land, and to pay my respects to their Elders. I also acknowledge the 200 nationalities who make up our city - and its gay and lesbian communities - all part of the great diversity of Sydney.
And that includes its doggy diversity! I've brought my own along to join the throng here today - and what a fantastic variety there is.
We're making Sydney a more dog-friendly city, with more off-leash areas for your animals to run and play. As dog-owners know, a city that's friendly to dogs is a city where people are friendlier to each other.
Doggywood reminds us of the importance of our canine friends and offers all us dog lovers an event to enjoy with each other and with our animals. It's become one of the great institutions of Fair Day, and it is with great pleasure that I declare it now officially open.
Have a great day, everyone - dogs included!
