At our next meeting on 18 November, I will ask Council to introduce free 15 minute parking zones for main streets in the City of Sydney before Christmas.
If Council agrees, a year-long free 15 minute parking trial will begin in early December. This is an important measure that will give local businesses and shops a boost in the run up to Christmas.
Both residents and small businesses across the city are overwhelmingly supportive of this idea, which will make it easier for people to make quick stops at local shops and cafes.
It's just one of the measures the City is rolling out to deliver a parking scheme that will be flexible and make better use of limited spaces.
The streets that will be included are:
- Harris Street, Pyrmont
- Glebe Point Road
- King Street, Newtown
- Crown Street, Surry Hills
- Redfern Street
- William Street, Darlinghurst
- Macleay Street, Potts Point
- Victoria Street, Darlinghurst
- Oxford Street, Darlinghurst
Parking meters on these streets will feature clear signage outlining the free 15 minute option. Simply press a button marked free short stay parking and you'll receive a ticket to place on your dashboard.
