The City of Sydney is running a series of free 101 Workshops for small businesses who have good ideas, but aren't sure of the process they need to follow.
This week the City hosted a 101 Workshop on small bars. Since 2007 when I worked with resident and community groups to fight for changes to NSW's antiquated liquor licensing laws, we have seen small bars popping up all over the city.
Our city and villages used to be dominated by beer barns stuffed with flat screen TVs and pokies. This is now giving way to more diverse venues including cafes, bookstores, galleries and small bars that cater to a wider range of people. These venues are an important part of the City's efforts to bring life and variety back to our laneways and small streets.
There are three more 101 Workshops:
- Live Music (10 July),
- Development Applications (7 August) and
- Pop Up Events (2 October).
Each will be held at Customs House and are designed to help people wanting to break into the industry or expand a current business. You'll hear from staff at the City, as well as successful business people who can share their experience with you.
