Councillors have voted to install state-of-the-art play equipment designed for children with disabilities in several playgrounds across the city. Following a request from a group of committed residents and local businesses, the City's Inclusion (Disability) Advisory Panel conducted a review of our playgrounds and identified several locations where new, inclusive play equipment can be installed.
Our priority is to install equipment which allows children of all abilities to enjoy playgrounds together, starting with a new spinner at the award-winning Pirrama Park in Pyrmont. Up to 11 children can join in playing on a spinner, choosing to sit or stand, with or without a wheelchair - making it a social hub for the playground.
More inclusive play equipment will also be considered for several other playgrounds over the next few years, including the all-abilities playground at Sydney Park in St Peters, a new playground proposed for Federal Park in Glebe, and a new park proposed for Bank Street in Pyrmont.
