(12pm, Victoria Park, Chippendale)
Thank you and hello, everyone.
I'd also like to acknowledge Mardi Gras CEO, Michael Rolik, and co-chairs Fran Bowron and Paul Savage.
I'm always glad to join you here at Fair Day. It's a great opportunity for our GLBTI communities, family and friends, to celebrate Sydney's diversity, sense of fun, and acceptance. I always especially enjoy Doggywood!
We've come a long way since the first Mardi Gras but there are still areas where full acceptance and equality are still to be achieved - notably with marriage equality. So along with the celebration, the struggle continues.
I'd like to say thanks for the work of the Police Gay and Lesbian Liaison Officers who this year, are marking the 25th anniversary of their work. There's a display here today that many of you will have seen.
Meanwhile, we have this world-famous celebration to enjoy, with all its glamour, wit and sense of outrageous fun.
I hope to see you all in the Parade. It will be my 29th year of involvement with Mardi Gras, and once again, we'll have a spectacular City float to underline our commitment as a City to equality, social justice and diversity.
Happy Mardi Gras, everyone. See you at the Parade!
