(12pm, Sunday 9 February, Victoria Park)
Thank you, Ruhbarb [Rouge, MC]. Hello, everyone!
Wow! This is Sydney's 36th Mardi Gras, and almost my 30th!
Once again, we've got the Rainbow Flag flying at Town Hall and the banners out along Oxford Street.
And once again, Mardi Gras gives us the chance to celebrate with our gay and lesbian communities, their families and friends. It's an opportunity to see some of the best of Sydney - its diversity, its exuberance and sense of fun.
It's also a reminder that although we've come a long way since the first Mardi Gras, some struggles remain.
The High Court judgement in the case of the ACT's marriage equality shows very clearly that Parliament has the power to legislate for this - and it's time that government got in step with community and had the courage to act.
We will keep up the pressure for that action.
Meanwhile, we have this fabulous celebration to enjoy, with all its glamour, wit and sense of outrageous fun.
I hope to see you all in the Parade. We'll have a spectacular entry from the City to underline our commitment as a City to equality, social justice and diversity.
Happy Mardi Gras, everyone!
