(8pm, Saturday 20th October 2012, George Street)
Hello, everyone, welcome to Moveable Feast! I'd like firstly to acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, the traditional custodians of our land, and to pay my respects to their Elders. I also acknowledge the people of 200 nationalities who live in our city.
I'm also pleased to welcome Joanna Saville, Director of Crave Food Festival, our partners in this first Moveable Feast, and Councillors.
It's the final event in our month-long Art & About - and the 11th year we've celebrated Art & About in our City streets and lanes and parks.
It was our most ambitious so far and celebrated the theme of In Colour - at its most vivid in the banners which were developed in collaboration with John Kaldor and Kaldor Public Art Projects.
There were also artworks and installations in Hyde Park, Green Square, Taylor Square with Reko Rennie and Redfern, as well as down George Street. The Wilderness Trail alerted us to the fantastic array of birdlife in the city and the laneway artworks again gave pause for thought and reflection.
A very sincere thank you to our Sponsors for their generosity:
- our Media Partners The Sydney Morning Herald and 2Day FM and
- our Supporting Partners, The Menzies, Sydney, and Sofitel Luxury Hotels.
Thank you also to all the artists and curators, the City staff and event partners who've worked so hard to produce another outstanding Art & About.
Thank you, also, to you - the audience, who've engaged with the festival and adopted it so enthusiastically as yet another facet of creative Sydney.
Tonight, I'm delighted to have our Food Trucks here. Officially, they're on trial until next May but I'm sure they have already proved their worth in contributing to a safe and civilised, diverse late-night economy.
So once again, welcome to you all, and have a great night!
