(6.45pm 31 December 2011, Botanic Gardens)
Hello, everyone, this is a wonderful night to "Dare to Dream". I would like to acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the traditional custodians of our land, and to pay my respects to their Elders. I also acknowledge the 200 nationalities who live in our City.
I can see that already many of you have been to the Make-believe tent and had your faces painted by Mrs Honeypot and her helpers, and collected your maps and colouring books.
I hope you've enjoyed the games in the Sometimes-land tent and left your special wishes in the Dreamland tent, along with our Sydney New Year's Eve Charity Partner, CARE Australia.
You'll have to be careful to dodge that ticking crocodile, especially later when you go down to the harbour front to hear the Nine Bells and see whether the fairies really are going to light the sky.
A big thank you to the SES, Girl Guides and Rovers who have been our special helpers here this evening for this wonderful picnic. A big thank you also to Chips and his magical guests from the Kings Cross Bikers and Bikers Australia. Special thanks also to the Sydney Observatory and IGA for their important contributions today.
Don't forget there are fantastic adventures to try in the Alwaysland tent as well as games around the enchanted forest and the pirate ship.
I wish you all a very happy time tonight. Enjoy the music from Kinderjazz and the performance of our story from Hit and Run Entertainment. I hope you and your families and friends have a very happy New Year.
