A bicycle powered outdoor cinema in Taylor Square will add to the Mardi Gras attractions in Oxford Street this weekend.
Part of the City's We Make This City art program, the cinema uses eight bikes to generate the electricity needed to power the projector, with movie-goers taking 15 minute turn riding the bicycles.
The free event is hosted by Magnificent Revolution Australia. A series of short films will be shown over three evenings, beginning with films selected by Queer Screen to celebrate Mardi Gras.
You can ride your bike to the cinema and hook-up to the generator or take advantage of Bike Sydney's valet parking. Riding a bike helps reduce pollution and congestion on our roads and this is a thought-provoking way of harnessing pedal power on a whole different level.
- Cycle-powered cinema, Taylor Square North, corner of Bourke and Forbes Streets, Darlinghurst Friday 24 to Sunday 26 February. Arrive from 7.30pm to hook up your bike, films start at 8.30pm.
