We've had a big response to our City Plan, with the City receiving over 850 submissions, Most relate to proposed planning controls for the Ashmore Precinct, which could see increased height and floor space as a result of Department of Planning direction. We will keep you informed about next steps and speaking with people who made submissions.
When complete, the City Plan will bring together three existing local environmental plans and over 60 development control plans to provide greater consistency to planning in the City.
The draft City Plan will retains the character of our neighbourhoods while contributing to housing targets in urban renewal areas.
The City Plan is based on more than 40 studies, reviews and research projects, including urban design studies for each of our neighbourhood areas. We've also incorporated the feedback from over 100 public meetings, forums and workshops we've held with the community and businesses.
We've worked hard to let everyone know about the project by sending over 105,000 letters sent to property owners, and advertising in major newspapers and local newspapers. We extended our exhibition period and held a week-long information session so that residents and stakeholders could talk one-on-one with staff. We also met with with key representatives of 25 community and stakeholder groups.
The results of the review of submissions will be reported to Council and the Central Sydney Planning Committee later in 2011.
