Bike riding is booming in Sydney. Our latest research shows the number of people riding in and around the City has soared 132 per cent over the last four years.
The number of daily bike trips in the City has climbed to 60,098 - up from 25,868 in March 2010.
With more people travelling by bike in and around the City than ever before, it's important we continue to connect Sydney's bicycle network.
On Saturday 14 June we will celebrate the latest link on our network with a free event at Prince Alfred Park. From 11am to 2pm we'll have bike mechanics offering free bike checks and tune-ups, expert advice on the best routes to get around town, and try-a-bike for kids and adults.
Join me to ride the new cycleway along George and Allen Streets which links Central, Redfern, Alexandria, Waterloo and Green Square - there'll even be free coffee vouchers redeemable at cafes en route.
Collect a stamp at either end of the cycleway and you can go into the draw to win a bike package worth nearly $1000, a Magellan bike computer, and multi-visit passes to Prince Alfred Pool.
You can also relax in the park music from Lolo Lovina, pedal-powered smoothies and gourmet treats from the Veggie Patch food truck.
