Business groups will receive more than $160,000 in cash and in-kind funding if Monday night's Council meeting agrees to a unanimous recommendation from Council's Cultural and Community Services Committee.
The two business groups recommended for funding are Walsh Bay Arts and Commerce and the 2010 Business Partnership.
Walsh Bay Arts & Commerce brings together businesses, restaurants, bars, service providers and arts enterprises operating in and around Walsh Bay. If approved, the $65,000 grant will help the group stage the Walsh Bay Open Day - when the public can explore behind-the-scenes spaces, participate in workshops, attend forums, take special tours and enjoy diverse performances of drama, music and dance.
Funding of $80,000 is proposed for the 2010 Business Partnership, which includes $12,500 for the Shop Local campaign and $15,000 for organisation support, communication and capacity building. The City will work with the Partnership to develop several other proposals, including the Main Drag to co-incide with Mardi Gras.
This work builds on our recent Oxford Street Roundtable, when businesses and arts organisations from Hyde Park to Woollahra expressed a strong desire to work together to improve Oxford Street.
