(Shannon Reserve, Crown Street)
Thank you, Sara Lubowitz, chair Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre and good morning, everyone. I'd like firstly to acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, the traditional custodians of this land. I'd also like to acknowledge Tanya Plibersek, the Federal member for Sydney, and to welcome all the locals and the friends of Surry Hills here today.
Welcome to another fabulous Surry Hills Festival - a showcase for the creative spirit of this community.
Earlier this morning I had a great time helping to judge the Dog Show in Ward Park and I'm pleased to see so many people here today in support of this Festival which in turn supports the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre - a great community institution.
Congratulations to everyone involved in mounting this annual fundraiser - all volunteers who do an outstanding job for the cause.
They've mustered a great line up of talent for the stages here and in Ward Park; there is an array of entertainment for both adults and children in and around our Surry Hills Library; there are food stalls, craft stalls and activities in galleries and other venues across Surry Hills.
And there's a Sustainable Food demonstration in the Library throughout the day.
As the Festival supports the work of the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre in this community, your gold coin donation goes to a great cause, so please be generous.
Have a great day, everyone.
