Each year, MPs nominate a constituent for the NSW Woman of the Year celebration to acknowledge and thank them for their contribution to the community, which often goes unnoticed.

Carol and Brian Twist

Sydney Local Woman of the Year Carol Twist & her husband Brian.

I was very pleased to present the certificate of recognition to my 2012 nominee for the Sydney electorate, Carol Twist of Pyrmont, to recognise many years of advocacy and support for disadvantaged people in Pyrmont and Ultimo, and her work to build a stronger sense of community.

Carol is an active member of her local community, a key volunteer in the local opportunity shop, at the Pyrmont Community Centre and with the Friends of Pyrmont resident group. She has used good local networks with local businesses, Pyrmont Cares and other support services to hold community events, including monthly community dinners at the Pyrmont Community Centre for up to 80 people.

I have had appreciative letters and calls from people to tell me of the impact Carol and her partner Brian have made, providing hot meals, a home, a friend to talk to, a lift to the vets, or home repairs. I am proud to have the opportunity to thank Carol for her contribution.
