Despite the claims in today's Telegraph, cycleways are increasingly popular. More than 60,000 bike trips are taken in the inner city each day and the number of people riding a bike has soared 130% since 2010.
The State Government chose Castlereagh Street as the location for a separated cycleway, as part of the network that it is building. The City is still waiting to see the final design for Castlereagh Street.
Bikes are good for business and our economy. More people riding helps relieve traffic congestion which costs $5.1 billion a year. It was the business community that lobbied for separated cycleways and major corporations like Macquarie Bank, Westpac, Qantas, Telstra, Google and News Limited are now providing facilities for their employees who chose to ride.
I want Sydney to have world-class transport for people whether you choose to walk, ride, drive or catch public transport. If you support a safe, accessible and connected cycleways - now is the time to tell Roads Minister Duncan Gay.
