A lack of long term funding for Housing NSW has left a backlog of maintenance and repair work in properties across the state. The inner city has some of the oldest social housing properties in NSW and recent changes have made organising repairs even more difficult for tenants.
Everyone needs a home, and public tenants deserve to have a home that is not broken down or unsafe. Today I launched The Repair Kit, a free guide for public housing tenants who want to have their homes repaired.
At the launch of Redfern Legal Centre's Repair Kit this morning, I heard moving accounts from public housing tenants who had fought, fruitlessly, over many months to get Housing NSW to repair serious problems with their homes.
The Repair Kit is designed to help tenants understand the processes involved in getting action from Housing NSW. I am proud that my Lord Mayoral Salary Trust could fund Redfern Legal Centre to design and print this kit.
