On Tuesday I took a group of Ministers, Members of Parliament and Councillors on a tour of 1 Bligh Street - a recently completed office building that sets a new standard of excellence in design and sustainability.
Developer and owner, Dexus Property Group showed us through the 28 level, 139-metre tall building explaining its world class features:
- A double-skin faÃ§ade and full height atrium reducing the energy needed for air-conditioning and bringing natural light and air into the workspaces.
- A 10m high green wall made up of 11,000 plants and irrigated by the CBD's first black water recycling scheme.
- A trigeneration system and solar panels producing low carbon electricity, heating and air- conditioning on-site.
1 Bligh Street was the result of the City's Design Excellence program and was the winner of the architectual design competition. The Central Sydney Planning Committee, approved the development, City planners, the Design Advisory Panel and Public Art Advisory Panel all encouraged and fostered design and environmental excellence throughout the planning process.
This building is a stunning achievement in all aspects of planning, design and construction. It has been awarded a 6 Star Green Star Ratingâ€”signifying world excellence in environmental design.
This development will strengthen Sydney's position as not only a global city but also as a leader in sustainable design. Tony Gulliver, Head of Development at Dexus also explained the strong investment returns expected from this type of development.
