(1pm, Saturday 18 May 2013, Pirrama Park, Pyrmont)
Thank you, Whitney [Fitzsimmons, MC]. Hello, everyone, welcome to Pirrama Park. I'd like firstly to acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, the traditional custodians of our land, and to pay my respects to their Elders. I also acknowledge the people of 200 nations who live in our City.
This weekend marks the start of a 10-day celebration of Pyrmont as one of Sydney's growing tourist and dining areas. It's also - as so many of you know - a great place to live and work, and the many activities, the art exhibitions, and the activities here in the park over this weekend will highlight that.
Once again the vintners and food producers of Mudgee have brought their top wines and gourmet foods to town, there's the Mudgee Sculpture Project here in the park, face-painting and children's busking.
Tomorrow, there'll be an exhibition of 200 canvases in a Schools Project supported by the Pyrmont-Ultimo Chamber of Commerce.
Over the next 10 days, there will be degustation lunches and dinners in some of the area's top restaurants, art workshops, photographic exhibitions and a host of different events to enjoy.
Today, there's some wonderful live entertainment to enjoy and I'd urge you all to visit the City's Try2Wheels stand, where you'll find a range of different bikes on show - including an e-bike - as well as bike mechanics and advice on route-planning.
And of course, there's free valet bike parking for anyone riding to the park this weekend.
The Pyrmont Ultimo Chamber of Commerce does a fantastic job hosting this event, along with the Mudgee Wine Grape Growers Association. I welcome here today Lawrence Gibbons and Sherryl Ryan, president and vice-president of the Pyrmont Ultimo Chamber of Commerce, and also Andrew Stein, president of the Mudgee Wine grape Growers Association.
The City is pleased to support this terrific venture which highlights the best of both city and country.
I'm delighted to be here today, to wish you all a fantastic time over the next 10 days, and now to officially open the Festival.
Have a great time, everyone!
