Join me at 6pm on Monday, 4 June to plan for the future of the Bays Precinct - waterways and foreshore lands in White Bay, Glebe Island, Rozelle Bay and Blackwattle Bay.
The Bays Precinct includes maritime and working harbour uses at Glebe Island, White Bay and Rozelle Bay; unused land at the Rozelle Rail Yards; White Bay Power Station and Blackwattle Bay. It includes 80 hectares of land within the City of Sydney and Leichhardt Council areas, most of which is owned by the State Government.
In August 2011, the City endorsed a long list of principles to guide the City's participation in a taskforce set up by the State Government. The taskforce's role is to consider and make recommendations to the Government about the future use and development of the Bays Precinct lands in the short, medium and long term. The taskforce includes the City of Sydney, Leichhardt Council, state agencies and community representatives.
Through a series of workshops in May and June, the taskforce is asking the community to consider the future of these important waterfront areas. Feedback the workshops will be included in the taskforce's report to the Government. This is an opportunity for communities in the City of Sydney and Leichhardt areas to tell the Minister for Planning how these areas should be renewed over the next 25 years.
