Chinese New Year Parade 2015

(8pm, Sydney Town Hall)

Thank you and hello, everyone. Welcome to the 2015 Chinese New Year Twilight Parade.

I welcome the many organisations from Sydney's Chinese community who are taking part tonight and welcome participants from the Korean and Vietnamese communities and, for the first time this year, an entry from our Thai community.

I also welcome the 150 performers who've come from various parts of China and I thank China's Ministry of Culture for making their visit possible.

They join the 3,000 participants to parade down George Street, beside the colourful building projections and plenty of pyrotechnics that make this one of Sydney's great events.

2015 celebrates the Year of the Sheep. People born in the Year of the Sheep are clever, polite, gentle, creative and compassionate. They are qualities to celebrate!

This is the City's 19th Chinese New Year Festival, and the last time the parade will be held on George Street, as construction of the light rail begins soon. So please, make the most of it, and have a fabulous evening.

Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!
