The fabulous facilities at Town Hall are used right across the year for a range of events. On Monday night hundreds of scientists put aside their lab coats, microscopes and research material to join the launch of National Science Week. I think strong education in science is essential in our community and I was happy to kick off the week of learning and discovery.

On Tuesday, I joined artists Jennifer Turpin and Michaelie Crawford to unveil Sydney's newest piece of public art - Halo. The inspiring 12 metre yellow ring is suspended on a 12 metre silver mast which moves and responds to the wind. This piece is part of an $8 million investment in public art at the Central Park development in Chippendale.

Thank you to everyone who attended Tuesday night's candidates' forum hosted by the Alexandria Residents Action Group (ARAG) and Friends of Erskineville and to Robyn Kemmis who represented me at last night's forum in Waterloo hosted by REDWatch. It's essential that politicians are accessible and accountable and I was pleased we had the opportunity to put our plans for the future forward.

This coming Monday night I will be chairing the last meeting of the current City of Sydney Council. I'm extremely proud of what we've been able to achieve - the creation of award winning new parks, stunning upgrades to existing parks, massive boosts to our cultural life and festivals, upgrades to City laneways and high streets including Harris Street, Redfern Street, Oxford Street and Glebe Point Road, an increase of childcare places, the growth of small bars, and award winning new facilities. That's just a very small part of what we've achieved!

Most Council decisions have been supported unanimously and I want to thank all Councillors for working together for our city.

As we head towards the next election on Saturday 8 September I've been out doorknocking across the City with the help of volunteers and candidates. I hope I'll have the chance to knock on your door over the next few weeks and introduce our team.
