Clover's eNews - No 612

There is just one week to go before election day. At this election, everything is at stake - action on climate change, responsible governance and a community-led council.

I am proud of my team's record of consulting with the community, committing to projects, and then tackling action. If you want our work to continue, I need your help.

Please email me at if you can volunteer your time to help with the campaign. We need more than 200 volunteers on election day to staff polling booths and watch the counting of votes.

Have you seen our campaign videos featuring real people in our community talking about issues important to them? Please share them by emailing your family, friends and colleagues or posting them on facebook or twitter.

This week the Tasmanian lower house passed legislation on marriage equality. This is a huge step, and I congratulate everyone involved in the campaign including Premier Lara Giddings and Alex Greenwich, the convener of Marriage Equality Australia and member of the Clover Moore Independent Team.

I have been pushing for the NSW Parliament to take the same action, however, Premier Barry O'Farrell has refused to consider it.

I'd like to congratulate the business owners who have become finalists in this year's City of Sydney Business Awards. On Tuesday night I met some very passionate and dedicated business people and I wish everyone well in the final round of judging.

The City's Business Awards are a way of recognising small and medium business in our community who are doing excellent work. Check out the finalists here to see if your favourite business made it.
Elections are tough but sometimes they can be quite heart warming too - one of my favourite parts of a campaign is door knocking and meeting people on the street. Talking to the community and championing what they want is what drives me to keep going. I was touched to hear about a group running their own campaign called cLOVEr.

They're hosting a picnic in Redfern Park tomorrow from 1pm and I hope to see you there (see story below for more information).

Please keep in touch on Facebook and Twitter and please invite your neighbours, friends and family to subscribe to eNews.

I hope you have a great weekend!
