This week I was proud to join Dr John Collier, Head of St Andrew's School, to celebrate the extension of the Kent Street cycleway. Kent Street is one of our most popular cycleways and the newest stretch of safe, separated bike path between Druitt and Bathurst Streets is now open.
We're asking riders to take extra care around the school as students, parents, teachers and office workers nearby adjust to the new arrangements. We will have City of Sydney staff on hand to talk to people using the cycleway about the need to ride safely.
The City worked closely with St Andrew's School to develop the design of this section of Kent Street, and I was told that teachers at the school will be some of the most avid users of the cycleway.
Work to extend the Kent Street cycleway all the way to Liverpool Street should be finished in November.
Extending and connecting our bike network is a top priority, which is why we're also eager to show off the new cycleway from Green Square to the city centre.
Join me this Saturday at Roll Through Redfern. From 11am to 2pm at Prince Alfred Park there will be free bike tune ups, live music, and coffees. The Veggie Patch food truck will be serving lunch.
The cycleway connects Surry Hills, Redfern, Alexandria, Waterloo and Green Square along George and Allen Streets and represents an important piece of our network of safe bike paths.
