Kings Cross and Potts Point have a rich tradition of culture and creativity. The neighbourhood has been a haven for artists, writers, actors, designers and film makers and its bohemian past is known around the world.
I was very pleased that on Monday night, the final meeting of this City of Sydney Council approved $120,000 in sponsorship for the first ever Kings Cross Cultural Festival, which will be held in November.
The Kings Cross Cultural Festival, hosted and coordinated by the Potts Point Partnership, will include a program of food, film, art and music events during the day and night to offer Sydneysiders and tourists a great experience of the area.
The Festival will also help support local businesses by asking residents and visitors to support shops, retailers, cafes and businesses in their neighbourhood.
This Festival builds on the great work the Points Point Partnership did in 2011 with their campaign "Appreciate the Point" that promoted people shopping locally.
The City of Sydney is working across all our villages to help small and medium businesses. Whether that's through grants or sponsorship, education or networking events - if you run a business in the City, there is something we can do to help.
