Fashion Week putting spotlights creativity

Yesterday I joined hundreds of people from the world of fashion, design, retail and media to see the first show in this year's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.

The City of Sydney sponsors Fashion Week because we know it provides enormous benefits to our local designers, artists and retailers.

Half of the 60 Australian designers in this year's event are Sydney-based, and Fashion Week plays an important role in helping them grow their businesses.

It was fitting that the first label to show their wares at Fashion Week was Camilla and Marc, a successful Sydney duo who are celebrating ten years in the business.

From now until Friday thousands of people will descend upon Carriageworks in Eveleigh - the home of this year's fashion week. There could be no better place to put Sydney's creativity and style under the spotlight.

Around 30,000 national and international fashion experts, reviewers and buyers will attend Fashion Week to see the designers' 2013-14 spring/summer collections.

You don't have to join the crowds at Carriageworks to be part of Fashion Week. If you're in the CBD this week you can enjoy the City's live broadcast of every catwalk show at our pop-up site in Martin Place, between Castlereagh and Pitt Street.

A bistro and bar, run by Double Bay eatery Pelicano, will also be open from lunch time until 10 pm - giving people a great reason to take a break from their office, or spend some time in our city before heading home after work.

I hope you get the chance to enjoy the events are Carriageworks or Martin Place and show your support for Sydney's creativity.
