Have Your Say on the City's Draft Petitions Guidelines

You can still have your say on the City's new draft Petitions Guidelines.

There has been a significant increase in the number of residents and other groups interested in petitioning Council. This is due, in part, to the creation of 'People's Petitions' by the NSW State Government, which has successfully allowed citizens to initiate debates on public policy in State Parliament.

At a Council meeting on 19 September, Councillors reviewed and approved for public exhibition a draft set of Petitions Guidelines outlining how Council will deal with petitions in the future.

The draft Petition Guidelines set out how to submit a petition to Council, how petitions should be dealt with and how they will be responded to.

Submissions on the draft Petitions Guidelines should be lodged on or before 5pm on Wednesday 26 October 2011 by emailing Elizabeth Wall, Manager Governance at ewall@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au.
