This morning I was very pleased to announce that Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue will lend her talents to the City's New Year's Eve celebrations for 2012 as our Creative Ambassador.
Kylie will work with the City's production team and the creative agency, Imagination Australia, to devise the theme, colour and style of the event. These themes and colours will be on show during the Midnight Fireworks Display, as well as throughout the event's promotion.
Sydney's New Year's Eve celebration is a globally recognised event and having someone with the experience, profile and talent of Kylie Minogue working with us is a great opportunity.
In 2012, Kylie Minogue is celebrating her 25th year as a singer, entertainer and designer. Throughout her career she has been a wonderful ambassador for Australia's creativity and style. I look forward to seeing how she applies her creativity to this enormous project.
Each year, more than 1.5 million people gather around Sydney Harbour to enjoy our New Year's Eve celebrations. The event is also beamed across the world to hundreds of millions of people - showcasing Sydney to a global audience.
City of Sydney invests around $6 million in the coordination, production and execution of New Year's Eve in Sydney. Research from Events NSW shows that this spectacular event contributes about $156 million to the local economy.
