For the first time ever, Sydney's New Year's Eve fireworks will go off to an all-Australian soundtrack this year.
Sydney's NYE celebrations are seen by an estimated one billion people around the world, and the display is possibly the biggest event held in the country - it's a fantastic opportunity to promote our local music talent.
The night will also feature a special NYE anthem 'We Are The Light' - which is available from the iTunes store, with all proceeds going to international humanitarian aid organisation and 2011 Sydney New Year's Eve charity partner CARE Australia.
East Africa is gripped by the worst famine in a generation and more than 13 million people, mostly women and children, need help. This song was written to get people thinking about the future, but by working with CARE Australia it's helping people in East Africa right now. Please download it and do your bit to help those most in need.
The all Australian soundtrack for NYE includes songs by ARIA Award-winning Aboriginal artist Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, drum'n'bass band Pendulum, 1980s new wave group The Swingers, and well established acts like INXS and AC/DC.
Curated by the City's NYE11 musical directors, ARIA award winning musicians Josh Abrahams and Davide Carbone, the soundtrack aims to lift the profile of Australian music.
