Mary O'Brien Reserve Community Consultation

(1pm, Saturday 2 March 2013, Joyton Avenue & Tilford Street, Zetland)

Hello, everyone. Thank you for coming here today. I'd like firstly to acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, the traditional custodians of our land, and to pay my respects to their Elders. I also acknowledge the people of 200 nations who live in our City.

Today we have the people from Lateral Corporation, and their Landscape Consultants, as well as our own City staff.

This park is being designed and delivered by Lateral, under a Voluntary Planning Agreement with the City, and we're working with them, and with you, to make sure that the expanded park will meet your needs well into the future.

Thank you to Lateral Corporation for agreeing to delay your construction plans and providing this revised design.

Proposals will double the size of the existing park so that it will become a significant open space for Zetland and Green Square.

The concept design includes open space area, new barbecue and picnic areas, two new playground and new plants and trees.

When we met last year a number of you had concerns about some elements of the design and so further design work has been done to address your concerns and respond to your requests.

So we are here today with the re-design to get your comments.

The design will then be finalised and Lateral will start construction as soon as final plans are approved. Some of the associated works like storm-water installation and the traffic changes to McPherson Lane and Lamond Lane will start immediately.

Today is your chance to review the scheme and to give us your feedback, either on one of the sticky notes available, or via the feedback form. There's a coffee cart to help keep you going, and a children's activity table to keep them entertained.

I also want to take this opportunity to tell you that this week, the City announced the winner of our international Green Square Library and Plaza competition.

The design by Stewart Hollenstein is going to make a stunning centrepiece for the Green Square township and a fantastic community resource. So please have a look at it at

Thank you again for coming here today. And I'll now hand you over.
