On Monday night, three of my Lord Mayoral Minutes paid respects to recent tragedies and losses – including the Sri Lankan Bombings, Ron Austin, and the Notre Dame fire.
Ron Austin was a pioneering activist for gay rights and one of the original 78ers – he was instrumental in Mardi Gras becoming the celebration of the LGBTIQ community it is today.
Council denounced the coordinated terrorist suicide bombings that happened in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, in which 253 people lost their lives. I presented our book of condolence to the Consul General of Sri Lanka Mr. Lal Wickrematunge and Consul, Ms. Pramuditha Manusinghe.
Council also expressed sympathy and support for the people of Paris and France after the recent Notre Dame fire.
