Thank you, Mike, [O'Malley, Mudgee Wine Growers] and hello, everyone. It's great to see you again for the launch of the 2015 Pyrmont Festival.
And I'd like to offer a special welcome to Natarsha Belling, a Mudgee local who is going to extol the wonders of the Mudgee Region
The City is (and I am in particular) a great supporter of the Pyrmont Festival, and of its great partners from Mudgee - a pairing that is now in its fifth year. We've expressed our support in a cash grant and complimentary banner pole hire to help promote the festival to a broad audience.
We're also pleased to join the Pyrmont-Ultimo Chamber of Commerce to support the Pyrmont Art Prize, which is now in its 9th year.
This year's program of events lives up to the high standards we've come to expect at this diverse and lively festival.
Paul West - host of the popular River Cottage Australia - will cook up a storm on Sunday May 17, using some fabulous Mudgee produce, courtesy of Subaru.
Broadway Shopping Centre once again joins the Festival as "venue partner", with a major series of artworks throughout the centre - all of them made from fresh produce. The project, titled Food Mapping, is billed as an exploration of food, art and music icons.
A new collaborator joins the Festival for this first time this year. Harbourside will join with Pyrmont-based charity Barnardos Australia to present a degustation dining tour of four key Harbourside restaurants. At $100 a ticket, all proceeds will go to Barnardos.
Another innovative program is a Culture at Work creative art science program for schools, which the City was pleased to support through an environmental grant. It will include field trips to the Glebe foreshore, visits to schools by teams of UTS scientists and Culture at Work artists, and will culminate in an exhibition of artworks by 250 children at the Pyrmont Festival.
