State Government holds final piece of school puzzle

The Daily Telegraph today has an opinion piece which claims that I am responsible for the breakdown in negotiations with the State Government for the sale of land for a new school at Ultimo. This is incorrect.


Negotiations ended when the State Government abruptly withdrew its offer to the City of Sydney on 25 November. I have made numerous attempts to restart negotiations, but the Education Minister and Department seem unwilling to talk. A public meeting last month called on the Minister to resume negotiations.

At last week's Council meeting I agreed to the suggestion of Liberal councillors that we accept the Government's price for the sale of the land. All that is needed now is for the Minister for Education to accept the offer and get on with building the school.
