(7.40pm 4 December 2011, Surry Hills)
Hello, everyone, welcome to the Surry Hills Village Christmas Concert.
I'd like firstly to acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, traditional custodians of this land, and to acknowledge the 200 nationalities that make up this great city of ours.
Welcome to our Christmas celebration which is for all our communities whatever your religious or cultural background.
Tonight we have the fabulous music from Don Spencer from the Australian Children's Music Foundation and the Matraville Soldiers' Settlement School, Swing Patrol, Justine Clarke and the Hollywood Hombres. And later in the evening, there's Santa's visit, of course.
Tonight, children can get your exercise pedalling special Village Green Christmas bikes, made of recycled materials - another fantastic way to green our City villages. Use your pedal power to generate electricity that will light the Christmas decorations here!
This year, we have a new Christmas Charity Partner - the Australian Children's Music Foundation. This is a not-for-profit organisation which uses the power of music to inspire and enrich the lives of young Australians who are disadvantaged or have been traumatised.
I'd like to thank our sponsors who make these events possible:
- our Major Sponsor, American Express
- our Media Partner, 2UE Sydney and
- our Supporting Sponsors, Coles, Lindt Master Chocolatiers and Sofitel.
Thank you all for coming this evening and thanks to our wonderful performers and our City of Sydney staff.
Happy Christmas, everyone!
