This week I supported a push for a new Sydney film centre by securing $30,000 towards feasibility study. A film centre will add to Sydney's creative culture by giving the National Film and Sound Archive a place in Sydney to screen their incredible extensive archive, stage exhibitions and providing a place to watch films on demand. Director Gillian Armstrong, producer Jan Chapman, TV Presenter Margaret Pomeranz and AFTRS CEO Sandra Levy are among the big names working to create the centre. Sydney deserves its own film centre. 66% of national drama production comes from NSW companies, more than 6,800 people are employed in the industry in NSW and film and television businesses generate $1.3 billion of income each year.
Sydney deserves its own film centre and I know it will bring enormous benefit to our economy, cultural life and tourism.
