Sydney's third annual Art Month, bringing together more than 100 commercial and public galleries, ends this weekend.
Sydney has a great contemporary art scene which contributes to our culture and economy. To show our support the City of Sydney is sponsoring this year's Art Month, and I'd encourage you to take advantage of the great openings, exhibitions and tours that are still taking place.
The celebration of contemporary art has featured over 200 exhibitions & events, including talks, performances, art bars and late night 'Precinct Parties' which bring together galleries in the same neighbourhood and entice a new audience into some of the best gallery spaces our city has.
This week galleries in Paddington, Woollahra, Rozelle, Waterloo, Alexandria, Chippendale and Darlinghurst have held Precinct Parties, including do-it-yourself tours of local galleries, live music and performances at the local art bar. Surry Hills galleries will be open tonight from 6 to 10pm.
Young people are also a welcome part of Art Month, and on Saturday a Mobile Phone Photography workshop for 12 - 16 year olds will be held at Stills Gallery in Paddington. Kids can use their own phones and learn the principles of good photography.
