It is interesting that the NSW Government should make such an announcement about parking fines when they persist with the building of a massive toll road - where revenue raised will go to private companies and not the community.,
The revenue collected from parking fines is used by Council to pay for community services & half of our overall income goes to the NSW Government.,
In fact, when we were discussing our most recent Neighbourhood Parking Policy, the issue that received the most submissions actually called for additional rangers to be out on the streets enforcing the rules. https://www.sydneyyoursay.com.au/neighbourhood-parking-policy-review …,
It's easy to understand why many people aren't a fan of parking fines, but they remain one of the key ways that we're able to ensure turnover of our seriously limited parking space in our Sydney area.,
The NSW Govt's announcement does not change the fact that, right now, the rules around parking and the rate of parking fines are set by the NSW Government – with Councils tasked with enforcing these rules.,
It is important to note that any decision about the issuing of fines will need to be reviewed and approved by Council.,
This was the first I have heard about this plan - so it's too early for us to make any sort of announcement about whether or not it's financially feasible to follow suit. We are of course considering the impacts of the State Government's announcement.
