So what has the Government promised – was it preferential bidding for future toll roads? Was it the right to collect tolls beyond the expected life of toll roads? Was it agreeing not to build or improve public transport in areas that would impact on WestConnex?

,

And because the terms are secret we don’t know what this Government has promised Transurban as part of the sale. There are many examples of contracts that favour the operator’s commercial returns over outcomes for the broader community.

,

WestConnex is bad for everyone – it will cost people in the west thousands in private tolls to use, it won’t connect anyone to the Port or Airport & the 120,000 extra cars that will clog local roads every day will threaten the city’s economic growth and competitiveness.

,

This is devastating news for Sydney. The sale of WestConnex locks our city into a future of gridlock, dangerous levels of air quality and reduced liveability. https://www.smh.com.au/business/companies/transurban-wins-bid-for-majority-control-of-sydney-s-westconnex-20180831-p500ws.html
