Our changes will make sure any new development in the area respects the edgy, historic and iconic characteristics of Kings Cross. The plan will go to Council on Monday and, if endorsed, be placed on public exhibition for further feedback.

We're also asking that future development of the Empire Hotel recognises its social history as the home of the infamous 1960s’ nightclub, Les Girls.

,

We're also recommending any new development set aside 50% of its floor space for non-residential uses & we’ll be pursuing heritage listings for Kingsley Hall & the façade of the Bourbon.

,

The plan recommends that any future development prioritises active street frontages, favours small grain uses and retains the character of the street – all things the community said were important.

,

Kings Cross has played an important role in Sydney’s history. It’s one of the country’s most diverse and exciting areas and its unique character should be retained, even as Kings Cross changes in the future.
