What this announcement shows us most of all is that the Berejiklian Government is rattled by the strength of community opposition.
But they've only done half the job - we need them to abandon this wasteful stadium demolition plan! https://www.clovermoore.com.au/protect_moore_park …
If Allianz Stadium is in such disrepair, why on earth would the NSW Govt propose leaving a new facility in the hands of the SCG Trust who this evidence suggests are clearly incapable of looking after major sporting infrastructure?,
For all of this money, the NSW Govt is estimating just 15% increase in patronage – with no explanation of how they’ll attract more events or how they’ll deal with them. “Business case summary” is also very vague about types of events they expect.,
The NSW Government seems to have based their decision on an estimate it will cost $714 million to refurbish Allianz Stadium – a massive and unexplained increase on previous estimates for the same work.,
Today they’ve admitted their proposed knockdown-rebuild of Allianz will not advantage the community at all, in fact the community is still set to lose and the private interests of the powerful SCG Trust stand to gain.,
Both proposals to knockdown-rebuild Allianz stadium have a benefit-to-cost ratio (BCR) of less than one – anything less than one means that there will be more cost than benefit to the community.,
We still haven’t seen the actual business case for demolishing Allianz, there is no budget breakdown so it is impossible to do an independent review of the figures, and after all this work the NSW Govt still can’t manage to stack up their figures so they can claim to break even.
