(5.30pm 8 September 2011, Westfield Sydney Entrance)
Thank you, Grant Pearce and hello, everyone. I would like firstly to acknowledge the traditional owners of this land, and pay my respects to the Elders, both past and present.
I would also like to acknowledge Robert Jordan, managing director of Westfield Australia, who is hosting us here this evening.
The City of Sydney is a proud supporter of Vogue's Fashion Night Out.
When we were asked last year to get behind the debut night of this fantastic event, we agreed with enthusiasm.
As Australia's only global city, we make natural partners with the 16 other international cities that are this year celebrating Vogue Fashion Night Out.
Retail and fashion are an important part of Sydney's rich creative life, and a thriving retail industry is also a vital part of our economy.
Sydney boasts the largest retail sector in Australia, and it continues to broaden the scope with the recent opening of this bustling complex which is now a major destination in the CBD.
We also celebrate fashion for its own sake: because it's fun; because it's stimulating and because it's creative. And Australian fashion expresses so much of the energy, optimism and flair that Sydney itself can boast.
So thanks to Vogue for creating this amazing night of glamour, fashion, shopping and fun.
Thank you to all the retailers and other supporters here tonight. It's the energy behind your combined efforts that shape the vibrant and varied retail community here in the heart of our City.
Thank you, and have a great night, everyone!
